Bank of England base rate
Over the last 10 years, the Bank of England base rate has fluctuated somewhat. Having been cut to 0.25% in 2016 to support the economy, it had gradually risen to 0.75% by 2018. During the Covid-19 pandemic, it reached a historical low of 0.10% in March 2020.
From late 2021, the base rate began rapidly increasing in response to rising inflation, with the Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee increasing it from 0.10% to a peak of 5.25% in August 2023. Since August 2024, the rate has gradually reduced and is predicted to hold at 3.75% for the rest of 2026.
